Gucci 2027 Cruise: Demna Debuts GucciCore in Times Square

Gucci 2027 cruise opened in New York City’s Times Square on Tuesday, where Creative Director Demna presented his first early-spring 2027 resort collection, GucciCore, staged among the plaza’s giant LED billboards.

Gucci’s archives note that the brand opened its first store outside Italy in New York in 1953, a milestone that has shaped its long relationship with the city, the company said. For the 2027 presentation, Demna placed that history inside a contemporary urban context, testing how Gucci codes read on city streets and on global screens.

Before the runway began, a video montage of found footage and commercial clips filled the billboards, mapping Gucci as a lifestyle universe. The sequence referenced product worlds and brand lines, including Gucci Acqua, Gucci Underwear, Gucci Viaggio, Gucci Automobili, Gucci Businesswear, Gucci Time, Gucci Gym, Palazzo Gucci hotel, Gucci Pets, Gucci High Jewelry, and Gucci Life, framing the label as an aesthetic and cultural signifier.

Demna frames the collection as a fourth chapter in his study of Gucci as character, blending the La Famiglia, Generation Gucci, and Primavera aesthetic languages into a unified wardrobe. The result is a set of core Gucci pieces, built for utility and easy wear: precisely cut coats, classic trench coats, sharply tailored business suits, essential shirts, streamlined pencil skirts, and Italianate details that signal the house’s heritage.

The show translated New York’s social mix into clothing, traveling from Madison Avenue to Brooklyn, from SoHo to Harlem, and linking back to Fifth Avenue. Demna populated the runway with figures who might cross paths in the city: finance professionals in pinstriped suits, society women in shearling coats, skaters in denim, and socialites in eveningwear, each wearing Gucci in their own register, Gucci said.

Streetwear and tailoring collide across the collection. Low-rise jeans and ultra-short street cuts appear alongside precise tailoring, while the brand’s signature Web strap, first used in 1951, is reworked as a strapless top, turning an archival emblem into an identifying garment.

Accessories and house codes reimagined in the Gucci 2027 cruise

Equestrian references, long part of Gucci’s vocabulary, were translated into footwear: the horsebit was abstracted into stirrup details on heeled boots, paired with pointed metal-capped pumps. Leather handbags appeared in deep inky tones and jewel-like sheens, and a wristwatch-shaped clutch included a wrist strap, the company said.

Large crossbody tote silhouettes were built from new materials, suggesting how the house imagines contemporary utility. The presentation emphasized a modern wardrobe that roots Gucci signifiers into everyday wear, blending archival motifs with current street and tailoring trends.

Gucci positioned the collection as a return to core items that define a modern wardrobe, a concept Demna has explored through earlier chapters of his tenure. Observers noted that the approach stitches heritage details to practical shapes, aiming to make Gucci’s visual codes readable across social contexts and screen formats.

Gucci 2027 cruise, as a presentation, underscores how fashion houses are staging shows in public urban sites, folding the city into the storytelling of a collection. For consumers and retailers, the collection will arrive in seasons that Gucci will announce through its retail channels and press communications, the company said.
