SHIRO Hong Kong opened its first official Hong Kong store at K11 MUSEA in Tsim Sha Tsui, the brand said, bringing its Hokkaido-born skincare and fragrance line to a local retail space for the first time.

SHIRO, the Japanese brand founded in Hokkaido in 2009, said it installed its first Hong Kong shop on the B1 level of K11 MUSEA in Tsim Sha Tsui. The company said the move marks the brand’s 18th year and follows 28 stores across Japan, with additional locations in South Korea, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Design follows SHIRO’s zero waste ethos

SHIRO said the Hong Kong store reflects its commitment to using limited resources and reducing waste. The company said designers repurposed bamboo scaffolding and traditional stainless steel mailbox plates found on older Hong Kong tenement buildings, folding local materials into the shop’s fit-out as a tribute to the city’s history and culture.

Best seller: Sake kasu and rice bran lotion

SHIRO identifies its sake kasu and rice bran lotion as a top seller. The brand said the formula uses sake lees from a 140-year-old brewer, Kobayashi Sake Brewery, in Hokkaido, combining fermentation extracts with rice bran to improve texture and brightness. SHIRO released an upgraded version in 2023 that doubled the concentration of the sake kasu and rice bran essence, the company said.

ZTYLEZ calls out the previous-generation yuzu hydrating mist as a versatile pick. SHIRO described the product as a water and oil dual-layer mist that uses yuzu distillate from Tokushima to hydrate, lock in moisture, and set makeup, while leaving a natural yuzu fragrance. The brand said the spray can be used on face, body, hair, and scalp.

SHIRO’s lip oil is a pigment-free beauty oil the brand says smooths fine lines and builds a moisture barrier for both daytime wear and overnight repair. The company also markets a treatment setting powder containing Okinawan sea hibiscus oil, which it says helps retain moisture and blur pores for a hydrated, skin-like finish.

Kelp essence and laundry fragrance set

SHIRO said it sources a rare cage-grown konbu kelp from waters near Hakodate to extract fucoidan-rich compounds used in a hydrating essence that the brand says improves elasticity and plumpness. ZTYLEZ also recommends the Soap Scent laundry set, which includes detergent and fabric softener formulated with plant extracts to reduce static and leave clothing with a subtle soap fragrance.

In-store experience: Zero Blender Lab

Beyond shelf products, SHIRO launched a Zero Blender Lab experience in store. SHIRO said the lab repurposes leftover aroma prototypes, letting customers choose scent notes and one of three alcohol bases, yuzu, mugwort, or floral, to create a custom spray. The brand characterized the workshop as a chance to give overlooked fragrances a new story.

The opening also prompted discussion among Threads users who said they welcomed the chance to sample SHIRO products locally rather than relying on third-party importers. SHIRO said the Hong Kong shop will allow customers to smell fragrances, test textures, and purchase the brand’s popular formulas directly.
